2nd PAVLOS MOUTECIDIS MEMORIAL SOLVING TOURNAMENT
The Composition Committee of the Greek Chess Federation announces the 2nd solving tournament in the memory of Pavlos Moutecidis (*7.11.1930 – †5.5.2025), the last of the old-generation of Greek composers. The tournament will take place on Sunday 27 September 2026, 10:30 hours, in multiple locations: Athens, Thessaloniki, Patra, Preveza (Greece) and tentatively other cities in Romania and Slovakia.
Venue in Athens: Heliopolis Chess Club, Vouliagmenis Avenue and Papanastasiou (close to the high school, within walking distance of Alimos metro station).
The local controllers will determine the venue for the other cities.
Format: 2 rounds of 2 hours each with 6 problems in each round, as follows:
1st round: 1 x #2, 1 x #3, 1 x #4, 1 x study (win), 1 x h#2 (2 solutions), 1 x s#3
2nd round: 1 x #2, 1 x #3, 1 x #6, 1 x study (draw), 1 x h#3 (4 solutions), 1 x s#2
Central controller will be Harry Fougiaxis, who will select the problems for solving.
Studies will be selected by Vlaicu Crişan. Any controllers interested in arranging the event in their cities should contact the central controller for details.

The tournament is open to anyone and there is no participation fee.
Prizes in Athens: Books and magazines from the late Pavlos Moutecidis’s library.
The local controllers will determine the trophies in their cities.
